So Councilwoman Sheila McNeil told east side constituents that toll roads on the north side are okay because the people who live there can afford it. While I’m against toll roads since I think the roads should have been built with the taxes that we paid for them, McNeil does have a point.

I think I know why TX DOT is so hot for toll roads. Given the legislature’s inability to see that funds are actually spent for the programs that they were collected for, I could see where the employees at TX DOT would rather count on toll roads rather than the legislature for funding.

I’ve been talking with Dig ad veritas about the Trans-Texas Corridor and she has pointed out that other states, such as New York, have an extensive network of toll roads across the state and it’s not considered a big deal. So what’s different about Texas?
