This is the kind of stuff that gives government a bad name:

A member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union, Gonzalez-Shaw said, “Our contract guarantees modest wage increases of between 8 and 15 cents for employees like teachers, teacher’s assistants and bus drivers, many of whom earn between $6 and […]

Guess who was smarter in the District 8 runoff? One candidate was a male podiatrist; the other was a single mom without a bachelor’s degree.
Despite the educational disparity, mom (with nearly 60 percent of the vote) put a stomping on the foot doctor.
Did I miss something? Was education attainment an issue in this […]

The latest fliers from the candidates in the run-off for district 8 arrived today and it looks like the serious mud slinging has begun.
Cibrian’s is an 8×11 piece with a picture of a clear-cut area of what I assume to be a development, maybe the one that generated all the controversy over by 281. […]

Clarification: On Wednesday, I reported that the city sued Stribling in 2003 for allowing a historic structure on his property to erode. I also reported that Stribling made the requested repairs. If you’re counting on the Express-News to report on the campaign issues concerning District 8–forget it. Now they do have some columnists who seem quite willing to follow-up on issues contributing to mud-slinging if someone provides them with with information. How depressing.
What I would like is for the candidates to answer the following questions:
If the […]

So which District 8 candidate is Rodriguez talking about?

Overcoming a front-runner is tough enough. But try doing it when you’ve made property taxes a central issue, and you’ve been sued for taxes owed.
Let’s see, it’s somebody who has been sued for taxes owed and who has made property taxes a central issue? […]

It’s nice to know we’re all focused on the issues for the election.

After two full days of research, I’ve concluded that, a) Cibrian has made some enemies, b) people read things into her Web site — www.dianecibrian.com — that weren’t there, and c) the Spurs and Suns could complete a seven-game series in less […]

It was a groundbreaking vote, perhaps an era-defining moment.
Ten City Council members on Thursday agreed to take unequal slices of a proposed half-billion dollar pie.
Imagine that! A city where some are willing to give up their “fair share” for the greater good. And the best part is Rodney Stinson’s district 10 is […]
