For those that missed it, Perry vetoed $154 million to pay for community college employee health benefits. From what I can tell, the veto came out of no where although Perry has accused the community colleges of falsifying information to receive the payments from the state. Shouldn’t the attorney general being doing something about it […]

I think Jaime Castillo nicely sums up Dewhurst’s attack on the Democrats and the voter id bill.

“I can only conclude that the senators who voted to block consideration of House Bill 218 did so not because it’s good public policy, but because they don’t believe in the basic American principle of one […]

Still, the central question on the voter ID bill has to be: Is there rampant fraud that would be addressed by the legislation?
Bexar County’s First Assistant District Attorney Cliff Herberg said he couldn’t recall the prosecution of a single voter impersonation case in the eight years he’s been there.
This is what bugs […]

If ever an issue has needed to be addressed locally, it’s this sticky business of testing athletes in Texas public high schools for steroids.
Really, this shouldn’t be a complicated matter. But, as usual, political ambitions have prevailed over common sense.
And, as usual, the taxpayer will get stuck paying the freight.
The Texas Senate and House […]

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Senate Finance Chairman Steve Ogden, R-Bryan, said they don’t like the idea of lengthening the enrollment period for the Children’s Health Insurance Program from six months to one year.
How about making college students apply for financial aid every semester? Maybe senior citizens should have to choose their […]

So much for restoring cuts to the Children’s Health Insurance program.
Dewhurst lays out agenda
“I want to see truly eligible youngsters covered at the same time without scamming the system,” he said. “We don’t want people under welfare if they’re driving Cadillacs and they’ve got trust funds.
I beg your pardon, it looks Dewhurst does a plan […]
