Olivares and his lawyer had a chance to present their side of the story at Thursday night’s board meeting, just minutes before the board voted 6-1 to fire Olivares.

They did it. I find it funny that Blanche Atkinson was the one nay vote. If you remember she is one of the candidates that T.J. Connolly is under indictment for funneling money to. I suppose we should brace for the lawsuits he will be filing now.

As for Olivares, he will be able to make his case to the board at a special hearing set for September 11.

This is not all that surprising really, in fact I would be surprised if he didn’t fight for his job. So, September 11th it is.

The head of BexarMet Water District says he wants out.

BexarMet’s General Manager Gil Olivares told the water district’s board of directors he wants them to buy out the rest of his nearly $250,000 contract.

Are you kidding me???? Of course he wants them to buy out his contract. I want a quarter of a million dollars too. Heck I would settle for lower water bills every month. I tend to think that if the man feels he doesn’t want his job anymore then he should ask to get out of his contract with no payment from Bexar Met, not expect a bonanza because he chose badly within his job. You know, the worst part of it is that I have been writing about this man’s bad choices almost since we started this blog and he will probably get a windfall for being a sleeze. Why is it that lowly little me could see his colors and those who have been elected to be responsible for more money than I will ever see in my life followed him like sheep? I am simply amazed by the idiocy of this being put on the agenda instead of laughed at.

After an emergency meeting, the BexarMet General Manager, who was indicted by a grand jury on nearly 20 counts of criminal charges, has been suspended with pay.

My gosh, what in the world is going on over there? Get indicted for wiretapping and giving your lovers raises and better jobs while firing those who won’t be your lovers and get a paid vacation. I need this job. I really, really need to work for the Bexar Met board.

Gay Street is staying gay. City Council had been expected to rubber stamp a request by the Second Baptist Church, which is located at the corner of East Commerce and Gay Street on the city’s east side, to Second Baptist Way.

How funny, if it had nothing to do with homosexuals then why wouldn’t the rubber stamp stay a rubber stamp? Thank you WOAI for reporting this. Sheila McNeil and the council should never be ready to rubber stamp things if they can’t stand the light of day.

1200 WOAI news reports that on Thursday, City Council is expected to approve changing the name of Gay Street to Second Baptist Way.

The city would like to be very clear that this has nothing to do with homosexuals. I know these things happen but a change from Gay street to Second Baptist Way is just a little too quirky to believe that it has nothing to do with the name of the street. It is certainly weird news though and I couldn’t help but post it.

A family’s home is flooded and they’re blaming BexarMet. They also say the utility company is going back on its promise to fix the damage. News 4 investigated.

I look for bexarmet news because, my goodness, it is just a train wreck over there but this popped yesterday and I just don’t get it. I have had Bexar Met turn off my water within the last month and they come and tell us they are turning it off but don’t come back and tell us it is back on. You just check the faucets throughout the day and when it is back on the water works. I am not sure how this is a news story or how anyone can blame a utility for their negligence in leaving a faucet on. The complaint isn’t that BexarMet came in and opened the faucet and then turned the water to the house back on it is that while the water was off the family left a faucet on and then forgot about it. How is this BexarMet’s fault and why in the world would BexarMet have ever told them anything other than sorry about your damage but don’t leave your faucets on. I can say a lot about Gil Olivares and the board of BexarMet but I refuse to blame them for a homeowners own negligence and am more than a little surprised that WOAI covered this from the homeowners perspective when the story should really be look at the kind of hassles BexarMet’s lawyers have to deal with.

Not everyone is struggling during these tough economic times. The head of the BexarMet Water District got a hefty $31,000 raise.

In a few weeks, BexarMet customers will see also a raise. They’ll be paying 14% more per month on their water bills.
