How can a 7 year old not be cute enough?
Olympic girl seen but not heard - CNN.com
BEIJING, China (CNN) — A little girl and her song captivated millions of viewers during the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. But what they saw was not what they heard.
Lin Miaoke was the darling of the Olympic opening ceremony, but it turns out she was lip-syncing.Games organizers confirm that Lin Miaoke, who performed “Ode to the Motherland” as China’s flag was paraded Friday into Beijing’s National Stadium, was not singing at all.
How sad is this? I watched the opening ceremonies yesterday (thank you tivo) and we really enjoyed them. This makes me sad and I think it was certainly a miscalculation on China’s part because all little girls are adorable when they have lovely voices and this just seems like such an absolutely silly thing to do. I understand that saving face and putting their best face forward is terribly important to China but this is going way too far. I suppose I just can’t understand a country that is that caught up in “looking” good.
This olympics was an issue for me. In the end I decided that the olympics should be apolitical and so my feelings about the nation it is hosted in shouldn’t affect my enjoyment of them. I don’t think I have the words or at the very least I can’t explain simply what the olympics are to me so even as a Buddhist I find that the sins of the nation shouldn’t be visited on the spirit of the olympics and that is just how it will be for me. I am just saddened that China found looks this important.

This isn’t about beauty, but about connecitons. The girl’s father is well-connected and had the power to place his daughter up on stage in front of the world.
Good to hear a different take but my feelings are the same and it still stinks.
Make a difference then, and don’t just let this injustice sit. There is a facbook group/petition to the director Zhang Yimou to let little Yang Peiyi perform (in person) at the Closing Ceremony. Join and lets work to have this injustice righted.

This stinks. I’m signing the petition! Thanks for blogging about this.
