Isolate the isolated even more?
On Sunday, state officials enforced a judge’s order to confiscate the cell phones of the women and children removed from the ranch.
The emergency order was sought by attorneys ad litem for 18 FLDS girls in the state’s custody, Gonzalez said.
In a copy of the order provided to the AP, lawyers said the phones should be confiscated “to prevent improper communication, tampering with witnesses and to ensure no outside inhibitors to the attorney-client relationship.”
Gonazalez estimated that at least 50 phones were taken.
Of course, I have been watching this story unfold along with the rest of the country. It is like a train wreck I suppose and I can’t help but stare. I found this particular nugget to be bothersome. I can imagine that tampering with witnesses would be something to worry about but cutting their lines of communication with the outside world and isolating them with only their lawyers or CPS workers to talk to is just wrong. Places like the polygamous sect that Texas is “saving” them from work because they live in a vacuum. They talk, eat, sleep only with people who are in the same position and that breaks the will and makes outrageous ideas seem sane after you have been living it for a while. The idea that Texas is doing the exact same thing hoping that they will be able to get the isolated to say things that will make the raid palatable to the world just irks me.
