(CNN) — Barack Obama’s campaign on Sunday stepped up its efforts to portray rival Hillary Clinton as a secretive politician, calling the New York senator a “veteran of non-disclosure.”
In a conference call with reporters Sunday afternoon, Obama’s top aides implored Clinton to release past tax returns, earmark requests, documents from her husband’s Presidential Library and the list of donors to the Library.
“What is Sen. Clinton hiding and what is lurking in the documents?” Obama Communications Director Robert Gibbs asked on the conference call.
David Axelrod, the campaign’s chief strategist, also repeated the campaign’s past claim that the New York senator remains to be fully vetted, and suggested Republicans could unearth now unknown details about Clinton.
Stop it! Does David Axelrod not understand that he is hurting his own party? It does your campaign no good to hint at impropriety when your own candidate has only made public one year of his tax returns and Clinton has made 20 years public. Donors to Bill’s presidential library bare no relevance to Hilary’s bid for the presidency and welcoming attacks from the GOP is asking for them to swiftboat your candidate too. We know at this point that unless one of them concedes we will be going into the convention without a clear cut candidate and the only thing you win in the next few months is the disgust of the voters that won’t show up in November if the campaigns can’t get their acts together. Spend the time until August showing us your strengths not trying to show your opponents weaknesses. If you must go negative (which you shouldn’t at this point) it should be directed at McCain not each other. I really don’t know how I am going to make it to the convention without exploding given that both Obama and Clinton are imploding and all John McCain will have to do is wait until they bury each other and walk on into the White House. Why don’t Clinton and Obama’s camps understand that we will have another 4 years of GOP control if they don’t cut it out?
