Social networking for the Presidential Candidates
This is a cool tool even if I’m not sure what it’s saying.
This social networking tool—new to OpenSecrets.org for the ‘08 election—illustrates links between candidates and donors. Included in this web are the 5 top contributors and industries (including ties) to each of the candidates we profile.
Some of the other information on the site is very interesting. The Donor Demographics shows donations to candidates by size of donation. The Money Primary is also interesting.
Candidates who raise lots of money say it indicates broad support. Candidates with little money point out that voters, not donors, decide elections. Here’s who raised the most money in each state. Roll your cursor over a state to see the amount to the top fund-raiser and how the state’s overall money splits between Democrats and Republicans.
Be sure to look at how the percentages change based on the time period. If only John Edwards had managed to stick it out a little longer…
