Record voter turnout in Bexar
More than 9,000 people cast ballots Tuesday in Bexar County, more than doubling the previous single-day record for early voting.
Elections officials said an electorate excited over the sizzling Democratic presidential primary in two weeks accounted for the record one-day turnout. More than three times as many voters cast ballots in the Democratic primary as in the Republican.
If the pace keeps up, Bexar County Elections Administrator Jacque Callanen estimated that 100,000 county residents will have cast a ballot during the 11-day early voting period. More than 868,000 registered voters are on the county’s rolls, she said.
“Something is happening in Bexar County,” Callanen said. “People seem seriously energized.”
The previous one-day early voting record for a primary was 4,165, set on the last day of early voting in the 2004 primary.
Wow! There is a graphic at the bottom of the article that shows where the votes were cast. It is quite exciting for our primary to matter. I haven’t been anywhere without hearing people talk about it.
