Take a step back a bit or we will lose

Democrats fear superdelegates could overrule voters - CNN.com

(CNN) — Some Democrats say they fear their party’s method of picking a nominee might turn undemocratic as neither presidential candidate is likely to gather the delegates needed for the nomination.

Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are running neck and neck toward the party’s August convention in Denver, Colorado. Most projections show neither getting the necessary 2,025 delegates in the remaining nominating contests before then.

Party rules call for the votes of superdelegates — 800 or so party officers, elected officials and activists — to tip the balance. The party instituted the system to avoid the turmoil that a deadlocked race would create at a convention.

I have been talking about this for a couple of weeks. If the voters don’t decide the nominee will we lose an election because we can’t get it together? I have talked to everyone I know and it seems a tad weird to me this year. The people who say they are behind Obama are vicious in their thoughts about Clinton and vice versa. I have heard more than once “if (fill in name here) gets the nomination I will vote third party because I just can’t bring myself to vote for (fill in name here.)” These are intelligent people, or at least most of them, and the idea that they might have to vote for the other is beyond them at this point. Clinton and Obama are idealistically almost identical, one has more experience, one has less enemies on the hill but seriously people, either will most certainly make for a better president than the one that is finally going away. Today I don’t seem to be able to put my thoughts into words but I suppose my entire point is that at this point we all need to calm down a bit because come November if we don’t get it together we will lose and then have to spend at least another 4 years with the GOP in the White House.
