Because what’s good for the stockholders is good for every one

So we should allow states more flexibility in building toll roads to meet our transportation needs.

Like Mr. Perry, Ms. Peters believes the federal government should reduce the role it plays in building America’s roads. Instead, both want to give states greater freedom to partner with private companies to meet those needs.

But we shouldn’t give states more flexibility when it comes to meeting their environmental needs.

The Associated Press: Calif. Sues EPA Over Tailpipe Rules

“We agree with EPA that a national policy is important to avoid a patchwork quilt of state regulations,” Territo said.

You could make the argument that any toll roads would still have to meet national standards. The toll road issue is really more about flexibility in financing rather than building standards (which remains to be seen.) And in different political circumstances, I might actually agree with the argument.

But based on the last seven years of the Perry and Bush administrations, I see the common denominator being corporate welfare well-being rather than the need for flexibility or standards. It has become all too obvious that national standards are good when it protects corporations from having to meet stricter local standards and local standards are good when it gives corporations a way to increase their bottom lines.

And as long as the voters keep returning these people and their supporters to office, they will continue to find transportation corridors and coal plants built in their backyards and with little recourse in the courts to hold businesses or doctors accountable for their negligence.

  1. HIGHWAY ROBBERY
I never had a problem with toll roads until Gov. Perry started taking our public right of way and tax dollars, both intended for freeways, to create a new monopolistic toll tax on our families.

Perry’s freeway tolls cost more to build and maintain than free roads, and his double tax scheme is allowing his contributers to make out like bandits.

An indexed gas tax costs many times less than tolls per mile.
