Bexar Met bills going up

For most of BexarMet’s 82,000 customers, let this be your first warning that your water bill is going up.

And when it does, don’t let Olivares and the BexarMet board blame it on the rain.

After pushing through a rate reduction and hiding behind a consultant last April, Olivares and company are going to tell you that last year’s wet summer was of such biblical proportions that all bets are off.

Does that mean I lose my $3? Given that I never saw that promised $3 I don’t suppose it matters that much to me. I never saw anything change in my water bill but Jamie Castillo does go on to show the silver lining in the rate increases that will come.

There is good news for BexarMet customers, though. The district’s rubber-stamp board majority recently gave Olivares a two-year contract extension that gave him “just” a $30,000 raise to $195,000 this year.

I say “just” because the board had considered a five-year contract extension that would’ve taken his pay to $210,000.

Only a $30,000 raise. I have to say, as a Bexar Met customer, that is great news, not.
