Don’t lie and you won’t get caught

Faced with clear evidence that its probationary city manager lied repeatedly on his impressive resume, the Eagle Pass City Council shrugged and took a step toward offering Glen Starnes the permanent job.

The decision came after an impassioned 15-minute address Tuesday by Starnes to the council reciting his six months of accomplishments in Eagle Pass and denouncing his critics, including the San Antonio Express-News.

“The worst thing they could find on me is that I lied on one part of my resume,” said Starnes, who blamed the “old political machine” for his troubles.

“If they want to get rid of me, those bad people who are driving these accusations are going to have to keep fighting, because I’m here to stay,” said Starnes, who was enthusiastically applauded by the meeting audience and praised by council members after his speech.

Glen Starnes very well may be a wonderful city manager for Eagle Pass, I couldn’t tell you but I can tell you that before you get a job as a city manager they look through a stack of resumes to choose the applicants they would like to know more about. I don’t have the specifics so I am not going to comment on whether he got the job because of lies or if he was qualified for the position. The issue here is how can he possibly blame the “old political machine” for lies he created. No one forced him to lie on his resume and he certainly wasn’t set up, it was a choice he made to be dishonest. I know that people will say that  everyone does it. That isn’t true since I certainly have a resume and there isn’t a lie or half truth on it nor do the resumes of my closest friends have lies on them. The point is that if you don’t make that choice to lie then you can’t get in hot water over it. I am less than impressed with his integrity since “the worst thing” anyone found was lies as though that isn’t a big deal.

  1. The funny thing is that you can access his last 10 years of employment history using the FINRA BrokerCheck at nasd.com in about a couple of minutes (he’s a registered rep, it’s public info). You’ll also find a judgment against him. It’s hard to believe that nobody checked.

  2. the canned him tonight and then arrested him. Glen Starnes is no more. Details: http://www.swtexaslive.com/node/5925
