1 in 6 drivers fail test
36 million drivers would flunk drivers tests - CNN.com
(AOL Autos) — Is it just your imagination, or do many of your fellow motorists lack even a rudimentary grasp of traffic laws?
One in six drivers would fail driving test if they had to take it today, a GMAC test suggests.
Well, if a test administered by GMAC Insurance is any indication, one in six people cruising our highways and byways — roughly 36 million licensed drivers — would flunk their driver’s test if they had to take it today. Not only that, but based on the 2007 GMAC Insurance National Drivers Test data the state with the most road-going dummies is New York, while the most knowledgeable ones are out West to Idaho.
Not a really happy thought but I have to say I had to retake the drivers test when I was thirty-three and I had a really hard time of it. I didn’t have a hard time with the drivers test, in fact the only point I lost was one I really shouldn’t have. I suppose I understand their point about moving your head both ways when you reach an intersection but given that their was a dead end to the left that was fully in view for 100 ft. on the way to the intersection the idea of turning my head to look at something I could already see was silly but I didn’t argue and took the missed point. The written test was a totally different story. I had no problems with any driving question but missed every single question on the punishment for drunk driving. I don’t drive after I have had alchohol, I lost a friend very early in my adulthood because he was drinking and driving and so I have never done it. I am sure that sounds very goody toe shoes but everyone has their own set of rules and mine happen to include never driving a car after I have had a drink. I don’t know the DUI laws because I don’t need to and the idea that I almost failed my written test because I didn’t know how long you could go to jail still seems off to me. I was glad to see that Texas wasn’t the worst state, in fact it was middle of the pack at 24th. I also tend to think that the true measure of driving proficiency is driving not written tests but oh well.
