Walkout makes the news but doesn’t make sense
Four members of the Mirasol Task Force walked out of a meeting Wednesday, taking 30 residents with them and leaving the remaining members to finish the three-hour meeting in front of four rows of empty chairs.
Before the walkout, member Estéfana Battle read a statement saying residents felt a solution was being forced on them and that they no longer would tolerate the intimidation or lack of respect being shown to them.
After that, all three members representing Mirasol residents — Battle, Cirila Lozano and Randy Zaragoza — accompanied by fellow member Henry Rodriguez, walked out.
What a silly thing to do. It is an 11 member panel. 11 minus 4 still leaves a quorum and that means business goes on and all you did was keep yourself out of the debate. It might make for good headlines but your point isn’t made with a walkout. You’re just taking your voice and vote out the door for the remaining members to do whatever they want without your input. Stand up and fight if you aren’t happy but walking out and allowing the meeting to go on without y our voice is a bad option. Your job as a task force member is to present logical arguments and solutions not have a hissy fit and walk out.
