Campaign finance disclosure is for other people

3 Texas counties slow to adopt ‘05 campaign law | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

After nearly two years, three of Texas’ largest counties had failed to post online the campaign finance reports of their commissioners and judges as a 2005 law requires — a mandate intended to improve access and accountability to constituents.

Of the counties subject to the requirement — Bexar, Dallas, Harris, Tarrant and Travis — Bexar, Dallas and Tarrant had not uploaded their filings as of mid-August.

Officials with Bexar, Dallas and Tarrant counties have expressed both confusion and resistance over the requirement. Some said it was simply overlooked while others called it poorly defined and vague.

Then again, maybe they do. I’ve been wondering about where to get the information since the Texas Ethics Commission only does statewide elected officials. Even the City of San Antonio has managed to post Campaign Finance Reports.

So what’s the problem with Bexar county?

Bexar County Clerk Gerry Rickhoff called his county’s efforts “a work in progress.”

We have an interactive foreclosure map on line but can’t get documents scanned into pdf files and posted on the web? Good thing we so much trust in our public officials.
