T.J. Connolly in a mess over BexarMet campaign monies
Investigators with the district attorney’s office searched the office of public relations guru T.J. Connolly on Thursday looking for records connected to one of his clients — the Bexar Metropolitan Water District. The investigators seized records and computer equipment connected to allegations that Connolly, whose $10,000 a month contract to represent BexarMet ran through this month, funneled money into the campaigns of two water board candidates through his wife, employees and other clients.
It was really fun to watch this on the news last night since we were talking about it in March and then again in April. I don’t know, in April I felt that the contributions were probably “legal” even if they were unsavory. The web seems to go a little deeper than we thought but I still tend to think that T.J. Connolly will skate away from this unharmed because the law doesn’t always cover gray areas and this just might be one of those. I am not totally sure though because the it’s a little more complicated than it looked on the surface.
“When the DA’s office looks into it, they’re going to find donations that were proper and that the people in my firm who gave money did so of their own volition,” Connolly said in April.
Now, this statement takes on new meaning when you take into account that he wrote them company checks in the amount of the contributions.

According to a search warrant, in March, BexarMet public relations representative T.J. Connolly gave five employees $250, which later was contributed to the campaign of Blanche Atkinson, who was running for a seat on the BexarMet board of directors.
Hmmmm, we will just have to see. It seems to me that would be illegal but our laws are made by politicians and so we will just have to see. Of course, Blanche Atkinson really should be more prepared for questions because no comment would have been better than the what she said.

“This is all a shock to me,” she said. “I am confident I will be cleared. I received no money from Connolly. The allegations are untrue and it will be proven.”
Did she not realize there was a paper trail? You just have to wonder sometimes why people open their mouths when they shouldn’t.
