So what exactly did they contribute?
Today’s letters to the editor section of the Express-News includes a letter from the mayor of Windcrest, Jack H. Leonhardt. This is wierd. Leonhardt states that “Bexar County provided specific property tax abatement incentives for 10 years to enhance the incentive package offered to Rackspace.” Is this the “financial wherewithal” that Tommy Atkisson
mentioned in his self-serving guest column? Why didn’t he just say “tax abatements” if that’s what it was?
Most important, through several critical stages of the recent Rackspace negotiations, Bexar County’s willingness to use its financial wherewithal in a novel way and our continued push to keep all the partners moving forward in a timely manner were essential.
More importantly, how come the county’s contribution of tax abatements never made any of the press stories? How much are we talking about here? And why in the world does the mayor of Windcrest feel the need to back-up Atkisson’s story? Does anyone else think this is strange?
