How could they have missed it?
Wow, I know that the Express-News has had to cut back but didn’t realize that it affected their reporting to the point that Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson had to report the county’s actions.
It was always clear that unless the reuse of the old Windsor Park Mall site could be addressed, there wasn’t much hope for bringing businesses back to the area.
That is why I see the recent Rackspace announcement as perhaps the most crucial step in that partnership, but it seems the county’s role is not well-known.
Imagine the Express-News not covering the county’s role in getting Rackspace to move to Windsor Park Mall. The Express-News managed to give Rick Perry credit.
It’s one of the largest grants the Texas Enterprise Fund has given, Perry said in the news release.
For $22 million Perry should expect some mention. Both the mayors of Windcrest and San Antonio are quoted along with various San Antonio city council members. Representative Joe Straus is credited with sponsoring the bill that allowed the boundary changes.
The boundary change agreement also falls under new state legislation, House Bill 3367, passed specifically for this project. Rep. Joe Straus, R-San Antonio, sponsored the bill.
Both the Windsor and San Antonio Economic Development organizations get recognized. How could the Express-News leave out the “crucial” role played by the county? Just what exactly was that role?
As an enthusiastic partner to both sides, I have worked consistently with the last three San Antonio City Council members who have represented that area to open a dialogue that ultimately — in part, at least — made this Rackspace deal possible.
And the Express-News missed covering that detail–he worked to keep the representatives open to dialog? Hmmm, maybe this wasn’t an oversight on the part of the Express-News after all. Maybe it’s just a pathetic self-serving attempt on the part of Atkinsson to grab some of the credit of what people are just now realizing is a big deal. Is he up for election soon or what?
