Dré Bly’s $33 million contract over five years is what the market will bear. The numbers don’t lie.
He’s a cornerback in the NFL. He’s an All-Pro. Show him the money. If his new team, the Denver Broncos, wins with him — with gate receipts and TV contracts and all — he’ll be worth every penny. Football owners aren’t in it to lose money.
But with all the notable things Bly has done on the field, something he said off the field recently went beyond only notable all the way to noble. He said his making $6 million a year was “out of whack” when starting teachers were making $30,000.
You just gotta love this kid for this. I don’t think most athletes ever think in these terms. I thought it was worth highlighting if for no other reason than to show that not all athletes are as egocentric as they seem to be.
