Farmers Branch update

FB rental ban dispute still has no resolution | Dallas Morning News | News for Dallas, Texas | Latest News

FARMERS BRANCH – A year after City Council member Tim O’Hare launched a contentious debate with his crusade to crack down on illegal immigrants, residents are still divided – about whether the city has changed for better or for worse.

Some said their opinion on Ordinance 2903, which would ban apartments from renting to most illegal immigrants, ended longtime friendships, hurt business and created an unfriendly atmosphere for Hispanics.

“It’s given those people who hate the changes the Hispanic culture has brought on the city due to their increased numbers an opportunity to hang on to their hatred,” former City Council member Junie Smith said.

You really need to read the whole article. It talks about the negative affects the ordinances have had on the community of Farmers Branch. It is really funny because Tim O’Hare is spouting how much better life is there now and the ordinances are in place but they haven’t taken affect so that is not even possible that they could be responsible for things like higher property values. Of course it pit neighbor against neighbor, hate usually does that. Irrational fear doesn’t ever have a positive outcome. Good luck to the people of Farmers Branch, you will need it. The rental ban will be undone by the courts and you will still have your neighbors to contend with and their memories will be long.

  2. “In May 2006, 18-month old Eva Gallegos was killed in a drive-by shooting as she slept next to her father. Two suspects arrested later were believed to be illegal immigrants with ties to the girls’ family.”

Huh. It seems like an 18 month old girl would still be alive if we would enforce our own immigration laws. So by all means, continue to support amnesty for illegals. Because disrespect for the rule of law obviously ends at immigration laws and doesn’t extend to our laws against taking life.

You crazy liberals are amazing. Cry out because children are uninsured, then cry out for amnesty for people who have no respect for law which includes killing children.

  3. Are you kidding me? Do you really believe that no American citizen has ever killed a child? It doesn’t even say they were illegal immigrants it says they were believed to be. How could they not establish citizenship in all that time?

It’s you crazy conservatives with your fuzzy logic that I think are amazing.

  4. Fuzzy logic?

So for you its okay if we let people break the law to get into the country. They thereby evade background checks that might reveal criminal behavior (not to mention the evasion of immunization laws, thus exposing law abiding citizens to a host of diseases). So then when these people kill a child, its fine because American citizens do it too? That is really amazing. Keep up the great work!

  5. See, Glen, this is the fuzzy logic I was talking about. Your initial comment focussed on a drive by shooting where the suspects were “believed to be” illegal immigrants and used that as a point of why I am “crazy”. I responded to the point and of course now you have decided I must think killing children is alright. I am not going to waste my time when as soon as your argument is countered you come up with absolutely silly responses like I think killing children is fine.

By the way, do you really think it would say “believed to be illegal immigrants” if they really were? Newspapers don’t mince words when it comes to illegal immigrants and the use of believed to be really says a lot.
