Perez and Perez: Why we didn’t take the city’s loan

We have made a decision that Las Manitas will not take out or accept a business retention loan of $750,000 that was approved by the City Council in June.

This loan has become way too complicated and caught up in controversy, politics and misunderstandings.

This is worth the read if you are keeping up with the story. Heck, it is worth the read even if you have never heard of Las Manitas and live nowhere near Austin. It is an interesting look at what big businesses like the Marriot can get cities to do.
