Because it’s the right thing to do
He did it for redistricting and school finance, and now Gov. Rick Perry says he just might call a special legislative session — if necessary — to require state pension funds to divest of any holdings in companies that do business with Iran.
Excuse me, but I can think of a lot of other issues that ought to be addressed by a legislative special session before requiring funds to divest from Iran. I know that we don’t pay our state legislators more than pittance but it’s still going to cost the state.

“It could cost the state between $1 million and $1.7 million for a 30-day special session,” he said. “It’s a lot of money to spend, especially when the odds aren’t very good that the governor will get what he wants from it.”
So what’s the deal? Is it really that critical to the well-being of the citizen’s of Texas that we divest from Iran when it’s already illegal for US companies to do business there?

“A special session would be good if he were thinking about running on a national level,” he said. “I don’t know what his motives are but there’s been talk of him running for vice president.”
Oh. Talk about public financing of political campaigns…
