The midnight hour means magic for Harry Potter fans.It’s been a treacherous few days for those awaiting the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at one minute after midnight. An online leak of the book Tuesday could have ruined it.
Early book reviews are already out. Internet sites are abuzz with ending spoilers. Scholastic, the New York publisher of the book, estimates 1,200 books were sent out for early release.
But such news means nothing to fans. Sure, they could learn the fate of their favorite wizard if they wanted to. That’s not what it’s all about. It’s about the moment.
“Part of the whole excitement of the Harry Potter book coming out is people being able to go out at midnight with other fans,” said Jennifer Chukwujekwu, a 17-year-old from Sachse. “I guess it would be easier to get online, but it takes out the whole fun of it for me.”
It is tonight, tonight, tonight!! Yes, I am excited. Yes, my oldest and I will be at the store at 11:30 to get it at midnight and you probably won’t hear from any of us at Dig Deeper until we have finished the last page. In fact it is probably best for anyone reading it to stay the heck off the internet until you finished reading it. The spoilers are out already and the idea of having a book ruined by an anonymous stranger is not appealing to me. I finished the last book without having it spoiled and hopefully I can finish this one without it being spoiled too. Enjoy your read everyone and if you haven’t picked up a Harry Potter book yet pick up some of the old ones and see what the excitement is all about.
