No non-administration official is above the law
Okay, even Dig ad veritas has commented but I’m going to do so anyway.
Bush Spares Libby From 30-Month Prison Term - New York Times
“I respect the jury’s verdict,†Mr.Bush said in a statement. “But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive.â€
See, I’m hungup on the word “excessive.” It doesn’t seem to matter to Bush that the virtually all of the appointed persons involved in this trial, including the prosecutor, were Republican appointees. He thinks they came up with an excessive sentence.
So would 15 months have been “excessive?” What about 10 or 3 months? How about just 10 days? At what point would Bush thought the sentence was appropriate and not intervened?
So what’s the message here? The message is that Attorney General Gonzales and any other administration official will be protected from jail time as long as he remains loyal. If it were simply a matter of justice, Bush could intervene in the case of the Jena 6 just as quickly.
