Bexar County Commissioners
Does anyone know where to find information on how to file for candidacy for Bexar County Commissioner’s Court? Does anyone know how much they’re paid? I tried the Bexar County website but didn’t find anything.
Bexar County Elections Department
I noticed the same problem with the school districts, no information on who is running, deadlines, how to file, etc. but plenty on the bonds they want passed.
The city of San Antonio actually does a pretty good job at making the information available.
Office of the City Clerk - Elections
Of course, since the pay of San Antonio city council members is fairly well known, $20 a week, maybe they don’t expect to be inundated with candidates.
Unlike Bexar County where the only thing I found was a proposed 2001-2002 budget that wanted to increase the County Commissioner salary from $63,590 to $75,590. I could see quite a few local politicians deciding that they would rather serve the people of Bexar County rather than limit themselves to only those of San Antonio. I don’t know if they have term limits but it appears that the court meets only twice a month as opposed to the city council’s weekly meetings.
Maybe we pay the county commissioners more money than city council members because they do such a better job at keeping the tax rate down. No one seems too upset that they don’t provide what many would consider basic services.
BTW, I’m not necessarily opposed to commissioners making a good living while serving the people of Bexar county. I am against them keeping the information about how others might apply for their job and their compensation from the general public.
