BexarMet wins?
As with many things that happen at the Bexar Metropolitan Water District, there’s a certain “you-can’t-make-this-stuff-up” quality to it.
For starters, BexarMet employees got a little something extra with their paychecks a week ago Friday.
At the behest of General Manager Gil Olivares, all 300-plus workers were offered a celebratory T-shirt emblazoned with the message: “BexarMet Wins!”
Of course, the “victory” alluded to the Legislature’s decision not to dissolve the BexarMet board.
To those in the know, however, this is like somebody celebrating an IRS audit.
All BexarMet “won” was more opportunities for the state to put a microscope up the spigot of the pugnacious water agency.
Lawmakers established an oversight committee and charged the state auditor and state environmental officials with closely monitoring the agency’s performance over the next 18 months.
If BexarMet doesn’t measure up, the five-member oversight committee could initiate proceedings to place the utility into receivership.
Rarely is victory so decisive.
I agree with Jaime Castillo that I am not sure that is really a win but what can I say. Read what comes after this part of the article. What a mess BexarMet is. You would think that given the microscope they are under they would know better but it seems you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours is alive and well in BexarMet. Odd how they could broker a utility service agreement for a contributor in record time and of course can’t seem to do that for anyone else.
