Promises and feel good talk

“If elected, I will cut your property taxes by 10 percent,” he said. “We’ll find a place to replace that money.”

Like where? How about just a little hint? Based on his platform, I think it’s safe to say it won’t be from youth or job training programs. It won’t be from increased tax revenues from increasing property values. Maybe he’ll cut out the economic incentives for companies like Microsoft? So much for “transparency.”

Maybe we’ll get to vote for the areas we want to cut. After all, he thinks we should have had a vote on the automated garbage pickup issue.

He also said automated trash pick-up should go to a public vote.

Now unfortunately I can’t find the quote but I believe that the city was reporting a 95% satisfaction rate with the new service. Can you name any other service that has a 95% satisfaction rate? I know, I know, how can you trust the city numbers?

Okay, how about some other numbers. How much does it cost to hold a municipal election? Based on McCurdy’s position of shifting “more control of tax to public through vote requirements,” I would guess we will be holding more elections. Should the containers be blue or green? Then again, we could probably save some money by eliminating city council elections all together. After all, if we can’t elect people we trust to make decisions for two years on the cost effectiveness of various trash collection systems, why bother with a city council at all? Surely he could just find a bible verse that would indicate the appropriate response to the trash collection dilemma.

Yeah, I’m not voting for McCurdy.

  1. Ehhhh, McGurdy, Frankly he just gets on my nerves, I hate all of that feel good jesus talk. “Jesus told me to run for mayor, blablabla.” I think the last thing we need is bible thumper like him in office that will cater to Christian special interests and ignore everything else. One of his campaign promises was that he would not govern for special interests, yet, he panders to the “Judeo-Christian values” voters. McGurdy, kiss this vote goodbye.
