Southside ISD doesn’t list upcoming board election
The Southside ISD website lists the board members and their positions but doesn’t provide any contact information. Nor is there any indication if the members are elected from single member districts or at large. As for finding out information on how to run for the school board–forget it.
However, as in other districts, individuals have figured out the process to challenge the incumbents:
In the Southside Independent School District, Position 1 incumbent Craig Knapp, a lumber salesman, will face Isaac Griego, 20, a body welder and student at Palo Alto College. Griego ran, and lost, for a spot on the board in May. Incumbent Tony E. Luna, 67, a retired educator, will go up against Rick Quebe, 53, an insurance broker for the Position 2 seat. Quebe lost a bid for the board in 2005.
I’m curious as to why the Express-News listed some of the candidates’ ages and not others. Why do we know that Isaac Griego is 20 but don’t know the age of the incumbent, Isaac Griego? It could simply be the result of a lack of information. The same is true with regard to whether or not a challenger has run before and lost. Since I haven’t paid attention to the various school board elections in the past, I can’t say what the standard is but I expect to find out.
