No comp for EAA or Port Authority of San Antonio
<
A. Recent revelations about the exorbitant compensation of Pedernales Electric Cooperative directors have created a lot of cynicism about public-service agencies and the men and women who serve on their boards.
Fortunately, the cynical brush can’t be used to paint the two agencies mentioned above.
Here is the faith-and-trust-renewing info on …
Edwards Aquifer Authority:
By statute, EAA directors “receive no compensation for service on the board.”
Port Authority of San Antonio:
The Authority’s staff and board have been directed to transform the 1,928 acres that was formerly Kelly AFB into “a master-planned, world-class, multi-modal port creating quality jobs and generating economic growth.”
For the considerable time and energy required to tackle this enormously important task, the directors receive ZERO compensation.
Please join me in a moment of silent gratitude for them and all other civic leaders who serve their fellow citizens because it’s the right thing to do — and not because such service is a smooth road to easy money.
I think it is important to point this out and I thank Roddy Stinson for bringing it up. There are a multitude of boards that run around the country with no compensation for any board member. The Dig Deeper ladies spend hours sitting on boards and volunteering with several non-profit organizations for no compensation. Without these boards and people choosing to GIVE their time we really would be lost as a society. Pick an organization and send them a little thank you card this week. Address it to the board of directors. They could use the pick me up because while they know what they are doing is worthwhile rarely do board members actually get any tangible encouragement from the community at large. They certainly get to hear all the complaints but rarely does anyone take the time to just say thank you.
