Wouldn’t you know it

Post Office asked to hike letter rate by 2 cents | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

WASHINGTON — The independent postal regulatory commission recommended a two-cent increase in the cost of mailing a letter today and urged the Post Office to introduce a “forever” stamp valid for first-class postage despite future increases.

The recommendation to increase postage to 41 cents was a penny less than the postal service had requested.

The commission recommended a 26-cent rate for post cards, also a penny less than the Post Office had sought.

Man, I just bought a book of stamps yesterday. Between easy pay options and online payments I only have 1 bill that needs to be sent through the post office and so a book of stamps lasts me over a year. Wouldn’t you know it, I ran out of stamps a month or so ago and picked up a stray stamp here or there from convenient stores and took that plunge yesterday and bought another book of stamps. A forever stamp certainly sounds good to me because I am just going to hate having to go out and buy a silly book of 2 cent stamps so that the ones I bought yesterday are still useful.

  1. not hard to understand all the mail truck are owned by senators so they can raise thier wages by voting on them in the senate then turn around and raise the postal rate so thier bussiness can make more too

  2. I READ AN ARTICLE IN THE LOCAL NEWS MEDIA LAST YEAR WHICH STATED THAT THE US POST OFFICE POSTED A 1.4 BILLION DOLLAR PROFIT FOR THE PRIOR YEAR. SURE SOUNDS LIKE THEY NEED A RAISE OR HAVE I LOST BOTH OARS

  3. USA mail costs less than any other country in the world. stop complaining and pay the 2 cents. you pay top price for a cup of coffee, don’t you? or for a movie ticket or cd or dvd, etc. 2 cents a letter will not break your bank, no matter who you are.

  4. I don’t think I complained other than that I have a whole new book of stamps that I am going to need extra stamps for. I was personally commenting on how it just figures that I read that the day after I buy a new book.
