But he was elected to help Hispanics out with vouchers

AUSTIN — The only Hispanic Republican lawmaker in the 181-member Texas Legislature has so far declined to join the House Mexican American Legislative Caucus….

Macias represents Bandera, Comal, Gillespie and Kendall counties. He defeated incumbent Carter Casteel in the Republican primary last year, using $757,951 given to him by San Antonio businessman James Leininger. Leininger’s support represented 96 percent of Macias’ campaign contributions.

Given that Leininger’s argument for vouchers is so that poor, Hispanic parents would have the same opportunity to send their kids to private school as rich, white parents, you think Macias would be breaking down the door to join. Or maybe supporting poor Hispanic parents isn’t the point after all.
