Bravo! Opera Guild of San Antonio
MySA.com: S.A. Opera Guild is bringing students to art-and vie versa
This space recently told of some 2,000 students attending a dress rehearsal of the San Antonio Opera earlier this week. Now something about the folks who made that possible.
It’s the Opera Guild of San Antonio — and it’s past time they got some credit for their work.
The organization, which is not affiliated with the San Antonio Opera, gave a grant that allowed the students from nearly 20 schools and home-schooled youngsters to see the dress rehearsal.
The guild also works with the UTSA Lyric Theater “Opera to Schools” program in getting performers into classrooms.
And don’t forget that the San Antonio Opera’s production of “The Pirates of Penzance” opens today and runs through the weekend at the Lila Cockrell Theatre.
I was at this dress rehearsal on Wednesday of Pirates of Penzance and it was wonderful. My children are forever indebted to the Opera Guild of San Antonio for their first taste of opera. The San Antonio Opera did a very good job. My children were engaged throughout the entire show and walked away begging to go to another opera. Pirates is really the perfect first opera for kids and the Opera Guild of San Antonio knew it and couldn’t have chosen a better time to introduce then. Bravo, to both the Opera Guild of San Antonio for the grant that allowed us all to go for free and to the San Antonio Opera for a wonderful performance.
There are still tickets available if you would like to support the arts in san antonio. It truly is a hilarious show and more than worth the ticket price.
