What’s really important
With so much happening this week with Gerald Ford and James Brown passing away, finding out that Ford didn’t agree with Bush’s rational for invading Iraq (this one really bugged me), Craddick being openly challenged, and the imminent execution of Sadaam, many might have missed a letter to the editor at San Antonio Express News from the NFL.
How can I even bring this up at a time like this? Excuse me, we’re in Texas… Anyway, I found two interesting aspects to the letter. One, why was it a letter rather than a guest editorial? Given that more people probably care about the NFL-Time Warner tiff than any of the issues I mentioned previously, I would think it would get a little more prominent play.
The second issue has to do with the NFL’s accusation that Time Warner is exaggerating the cost of the network to the subscribers.
MySA.com: Letters to the Editor
San Antonians should know two things about what the NFL Network has proposed to Time Warner:
First, the NFL Network has asked Time Warner to pay 70 cents per month for each subscriber — only $8.40 per customer per year — for NFL Network distribution rights and to make the NFL Network available in the same basic-service packages that include the regional sports channels that Time Warner owns.
Now that I think about it, two probably explains one. After all, if what the NFL is saying is true, it makes the reporting look, shall we say less than thorough? Granted, the reporter was just quoting the Time Warner customer service representative. Maybe he couldn’t find any independent information to confirm the statement. And I’m sure he attempted to contact the NFL for their take on the issue and they declined to respond.
Or maybe the Express-News was just giving what the public wanted. Which leads to the following question. Which do you think will generate more hits for Dig Deeper Texas, a detailed analysis of the money contributed to each of the candidates for the Speaker of the Texas House or a cynical observation concerning the NFL and Time Warner dispute? As if I even have to ask, I live in San Antonio.
