Politics of Fear
Cheney: Democratic victory would embolden militants - washingtonpost.com:
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney, campaigning for Republicans four days before congressional elections, said on Friday that victories for Democratic critics of the Iraq war would tell militants that “their strategy is working.” Polls show Democrats may be poised to take control of at least one chamber of Congress in Tuesday’s elections, largely due to anger over the war.
All election season we have heard things like this. Let’s be very clear here, the militants in Iraq are fighting because our country is over there. They are mad that we have chosen to take over their country and that we continue to occupy it. They don’t care about our politicians (unless they are burning them in effigy) they care that we are an occupying force within their borders. This is double-speak on Cheney and the republican’s part. But this administration has so lowered the bar on political discourse in this country that throwing out innuendo without facts is par for the course. They are playing on our deepest fears and we can’t allow it. Their statements don’t have any truth to them, they simply perpetuate a climate of fear. They do it because when the American people are afraid we are more pliable. Tell them with your vote that we won’t live in fear and their scare tactics will no longer work.
I think something General MacArthur said is very appropriate today. Let’s learn from the past and not be doomed to repeat it.
“I am concerned for the security of our great Nation; not so much because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious forces working from within…Our country is now geared to an arms economy bred in an artificially induced psychosis of war hysteria and an incessant propaganda of fear. ”

MacArthur? He was one of those flaming, commie, liberals, wasn’t he?
