2008 Can Wait

Most everyone knows the definition of a democratic firing squad. They all face each other in a circle and shoot. We’re seeing it here in Texas in the Congressional District 23 race. And we’re seeing it nationally with Hillary Clinton.

What am I talking about? I keep getting these phone calls and emails from the DCSS to contribute to fund various Democratic campaigns across the country in order to take back the senate. Even though I’m pretty certain they aren’t spending a dime on Barbara Ann Radnofsky who is challenging Kay Bailey Hutchinson, I have given believing the big picture is more important than what’s coming back to me personally.

As for Hillary, according to OpenSecrets.org, her campaign is sitting on at least $15,000,000 as of September 30th. Her opponent? Less than half a million. Hilllary managed to raise over $37,000,000 for this election cycle alone. Over 55% of her contributions come from outside the state of New York. And she’s asking me on behalf of the DSCC to contribute to help create a Democratic senate.

At this point in the election, I think she could accomplish a lot more coughing up some of her campaign contributions than begging $50 from me. She doesn’t even make it into the top twenty list of DSCC contributers although seven other senators are listed. After all, what could be more important than Democratic control of the senate? Could it be Hilllary for president in 08?

Senator Cash on Hand DSCC Contribution
Harry Reid $185,942 $500,000
Daniel K Inouye $683,718 $300,000
Ron Wyden $1,110,050 $269,500
Dick Durbin $2,640,040 $235,000
Carl Levin $207,933 $200,000
James Jeffords $413,937 $155,000
Barack Obama $755,696 $150,000

FYI: You can’t look up expenditures on US Senators since they have exempted themselves from having to report such information.
