WOAI: San Antonio News - Coal plant interests give Perry camp $132,000:
AUSTIN (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry has accepted more than $100,000 in campaign contributions from groups involved in construction of 16 coal-burning power plants since he signed an order to speed state approval of the projects.None of the governor’s rivals in the campaign has received donations from the companies, according to finance reports.
Dallas-based TXU Corp., the primary beneficiary of Perry’s order, has given Perry $35,000 in the past year through the utility company’s political action committees. Retired TXU chairman Erle Nye contributed $2,000 the date Perry signed the executive order to fast-track the permitting process. He’s given $50,000 since then.
TXU wants to build 11 new coal-fired plants in Texas.
Representatives for TXU and the Perry campaign said the donations were unrelated to the governor’s decision.
$50,000 may not buy a decision, but I bet Perry spends a lot more time listening to the augments of those who do.
WOAI: San Antonio News - Coal plant interests give Perry camp $132,000:
TXU has pledged to reduce its overall pollution output. The governor also notes that the state has made major investments in cleaner technologies, such as wind energy.
Perry gets $50,000 and TXU will probably get 11 new plants and the rest of us gets a “pledge” that we can take to the bank.
